Komorebi

Komorebi is a Japanese term meaning “sunlight filtering through leaves.” It’s a fitting moniker for Tarana Marwah, a New Delhi-based electronic artist, whose lush Bjork and Radiohead-inspired soundscapes are described as “hypnotic,” “haunting,” and “otherworldly”. Since releasing her first EP in 2015, Marwah has been on a steady ascent, not just as a result of performances at festivals such as SXSW, Red Bull Tour Bus, NH7 Weekender and Treefort, but also scoring projects for Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and in 2019 she won the VH-1 Sound Nation League competition and was nominated for a MTV European Music Award.

The follow up to her well-received sophomore release Soliloquy is the single “Rebirth” (released on Austin-based label Chicken Ranch Records), an ethereal and captivating 90s-electronic influenced standout peppered with traditional Indian flourishes. With it’s “layered harmonies”, “and larger than life pop dynamism” (Rolling Stone), it’s no surprise that Marwah has been a classically trained pianist from the age of 7.

And there’s more to come. The artist has two albums slated for release in the next year, in both Hindi and English. Fitting, considering while Komorebi is revered in her home country of India, she is poised to take on the world.
